Project Overview
This project included the restoration of a failed secondary containment lining system for fuel storage tanks on a US Coast Guard facility in California. The scope of the project included two 8,000-square-foot containment basins for 750,000-gallon fuel storage tanks. The duration was five weeks to complete the project, which included the removal of the existing urethane coating system, concrete preparation, sealant replacement, and installation of the new 80-mil liquid-applied Polyurea membrane liner.
Application
Once the team had successfully removed the existing urethane coating and prepped the concrete for the application of the new coating system by Feedom began. IPW selected this chemical-resistant polyurea system for a number of reasons, including precise application, non-volatile, Zero VOC’s, low odor, and fast curing. Once the primer was applied to the concrete, the team spray-applied the polyurea coating, forming a continuous, seamless membrane of a desired thickness on the concrete.
Results
It took IPW five weeks to complete the work, including removal of the existing urethane coating system, concrete prep, sealant replacement, and installation of a new 80-mil liquid-applied membrane liner. IPW was able to successfully complete the job with minimal downtime and no dust, fumes, or overspray.
