Project Overview
This complex project involved the construction of a new mausoleum structure built into a hillside at the Memorial Gardens Christ Cathedral. The back retaining wall was designed using steel piling and lagging timber system. Rebar reinforcement was installed, and a form was placed 12” off the lagging. The cavity between lagging and formwork was filled with concrete, and once the form was removed, a new structural wall was exposed, which needed protecting.
Application
Approximately 3,500 square feet of geotextile lagging wall waterproofing was completed. Geotextile fabric was hand-sprayed onsite with 80 mils of polyurea, cut to size, and mechanically fastened to the lagging wall with 2” ring shank nails. Seams were overlapped by 6”, bonded with wet polyurea, and encapsulated with a 12” polyurea application to create a continuous, seamless waterproof barrier.
In addition, approximately 10,000 square feet of traditional form-and-pour concrete wall construction was waterproofed using a two-coat application of Sika 320 at 90 mils, then protected with a drain mat system.
Results
This combined waterproofing system ensured long-term durability, seamless moisture protection, and integration with the unique hillside mausoleum design.
