Project Overview
NBC Universal’s West Coast headquarters in Universal City spans almost 400 acres, serving as a significant operational hub for the company’s news, entertainment, and theme park businesses.
In November 2018, they needed to waterproof a parking garage situated directly above the Access Hollywood production studio that housed millions of dollars’ worth of equipment.
Application
More than suited for this type of project, IPW used the FreedomTuff Guardiandeck system to protect and waterproof the 12,000 square foot, high volume parking garage surface. Before any coating was applied, the surface was shotblasted to remove failed coatings and provide a CSP-3-4 mil profile. Cracks were filled with Urethane sealant, and damaged concrete was repaired using Rapid Set mortars. After all preparation was completed, the deck was primed with 10 mils of FreedomTuff-6160 epoxy primer, followed by the broadcast to refusal with # 16-30 sand. Next, the FreedomTuff 2190 polyurea was applied at 48 mils and then covered with 24 mils of FreedomTuff 4300 polyurethane (with a 20/40 aggregate broadcast). Drive lanes and turn radius received a double application of the 4300 wearcours. To finish, the team applied FreedomTuff 4000 aliphatic topcoat at 16 mils to provide a color-stable, durable finish.
Results
Not only did the parking garage look and perform better, but the newly applied Guardiadeck system ensured the facility and equipment below the deck remained safe and protected, providing peace of mind.
