Project Overview
Formerly known as Two California Plaza, 2Cal is a 52-story, Class A office tower in the Bunker Hill District of downtown Los Angeles. The 29,000 sq ft rooftop was leaking and required replacement. The previous layout included insulation and drain mat protection covered by 24” cement pavers, which needed to be removed prior to priming the area and waterproofing the surface. The client needed an efficient, low-odor waterproofing solution as the building was occupied at the time of the project.
Application
The first step involved removing all of the existing pavers and underlayment installation to reach the existing waterproofing system. The scope included the removal of the old waterproofing, followed by shotblasting. Once the area was fully prepped, IPW used Freedom Chemical’s Guardian-PD™ systems to provide long-lasting protection and waterproofing for the rooftop area. The roofing paver system was reinstalled over new rigid insulation and drain mat. The combination of the products used provided excellent thermal stability, quick return to service, and durable installations with no odor, which was ideal for the facility.
Results
Not only was the project completed on time and on budget, but the execution also resulted in minimal operational interruption throughout. The result was a fully restored and waterproofed roofing structure that can withstand the elements for years to come.
